Das in den 1960er Jahren gebaute Rathaus der Stadt Marl wird bespielt mit drei Leuchtkörpern in den Grundfarben Rot, Gelb und Blau. PIET! ist angelehnt an die Fenstergestaltung des Rathaussaals. »Münster hat Butzenscheiben – Marl hingegen hat De Stijl-Farben.« Mit dieser Aussage spielte der ehemalige Marler Bürgermeister Rudolf-Ernst Heiland einst auf die dynamische und avantgardistische Rolle Marls in der Zeit der 1960er-Jahre an, die sich nicht nur in der Architektur, sondern auch in der gesamten Gestaltung der neuen Stadt widerspiegeln sollte: Die Umsetzung einer Utopie der modernen Großstadt. 2017 ist es 100 Jahre her, dass De Stijl in Leiden gegründet wurde. Martin Pfeifle installiert in Reminiszenz an den bedeutenden De Stijl-Künstler Piet Mondrian große Leuchtkörper in den drei Grundfarben Rot, Blau und Gelb an und um die Marler Rathaustürme.
The city hall of the city of Marl, built in the 1960s, is equipped with three light fixtures in the primary colours red, yellow, and blue. PIET! is based on the window design of the assembly room in the city hall. ‘Münster has crown glass windows – Marl, on the other hand, has De Stijl colours.’ With this statement, the former mayor of Marl, Rudolf-Ernst Heiland, once alluded to the dynamic and avant-garde role of Marl in the 1960s, which was to be reflected not only in the architecture but also in the entire design of the new city: the realisation of a utopian modern city. 2017 marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of De Stijl in Leiden. Martin Pfeifle is commemorating the important De Stijl artist Piet Mondrian by installing large illuminated objects in the three primary colours red, blue and yellow on and around the Marl town hall towers.
